Nickel and Diming

Happy Thursday!

I'm really excited that it's Thursday today. Cody is off tomorrow, which means we have three days this weekend to play and we have some really fun things planned.
This past week I've been working on getting Aiden's new room situated. We've been so focused on spending time outside and doing work on the yard that the bedrooms have been sort of sitting still in the whole unpacking department.
Last week Aiden started this new thing where he'd go into his room and tear through all of the boxes approximately 8 to 9 times a day. I mean, let's face it, he's a two year old and he wants to smother himself in ALL his toys, all day long, so I figured I'd better get my butt into gear.

Here's what I've done so far.

The family that lived here before us had two girls, so the bedrooms upstairs (aside from the master bedroom) are pretty girly colored and by girly colored, I mean pink, purple, and a wild key lime color.

Meh, okay I'm no photographer and these are not great examples, but in person it looks a lot better! It's more open and has a real peaceful feeling to it. We choose a silver/grayish color and are really excited about the results. We really lucked out buying paint because the poor employee at Lowes made a mistake on our order. He accidentally made the color we choose one shade darker than what we wanted so he sold us the full gallon of paint for only $5.00. Score!
Oh and see that cute blue Ikea table in the first photo? I found it free on Craigslist. Double score! I don't mean to brag, but seriously you guys, I'm pretty good at finding free, awesome stuff on Craigslist. The majority of the furniture in our house was found on Craigslist for free or super cheap. With a little love, elbow grease, and creativity, you can really give some old, beat up furniture a whole new life.

Onwards and upwards.

I bought this dresser from Goodwill awhile ago during a 1/2 off tag sale for $3.00. Unfortunately I don't have a before photo, but it was pretty much just brown and scratched up. I sanded it down, bought sample paints for 2 bucks a pop and painted all the drawers a different color.

We finally got to hang up this awesome drawing of Curious George that my brother made for Aiden for his birthday. There's a lot of other fun art to hang up, but I'm still looking around for cheap frames so more to come on that. I had a lot of fun making these black and white chevron print curtains.
They damn near made me dizzy sewing, but they look a lot more fun than the baby pink ones the previous owners left behind for us.

A lot of moms ask me what "theme" Aiden's room is and I really don't know how to answer except that theres really not one. When Cody and I set up his nursery when he was just a wee one, it was all outdoorsy, wildlife stuff.  Now that he's older though, it's decorated with books, transformers, race cars, trucks, dinosaurs, legos, day old granola bars, and more trucks. He has a bright orange giraffe lamp and camouflage bear sheets.

Everything clashes perfectly, it's simply little boy themed.

So, enough on themes for now, what do I do with this closet? Aside from the master bedroom, none of the closets have doors on them. The previous owners had curtains hanging up and we're not really sure what to do with the closets yet. Any ideas? Curtains? Doors? Nothing? I'm empty of ideas with the whole closet thing.

Here's a photo for proof that all the big boxes of clothes, books, and toys are finally all unpacked from the closet.

Sweet, sweet victory.

That's all for now folks. We're off for a hike this morning before the rain comes tomorrow. I can't get enough of this refreshing, crisp, chilly weather. It's truly the best.

Little bits.

We've been in our new home for approximately two months now and if unpacking into this new space isn't exciting enough, now we're decorating for Halloween! It's so fun to watch Aiden's face light up as we scatter random bats, spiders, and pumpkins throughout the house. To think that these are the decorations he's going to look forward to each year and remember about his childhood when he's older is nuts and it's all pretty blissful to me to say the least.

We spent the afternoon yesterday working on fun Halloween craft projects. I made some bats out of construction paper, folded the wings out a bit, stuck them on the wall with scotch tape, and wah-lah!  I think they turned out pretty cute! Not too spooky, but not too cheesy either.

While I was busy tracing and cutting bats, Aiden worked on decorating a Frankenstein picture with pasta pieces, which we later painted.

So that's the happs in our neck of the woods. How about you? Are you doing any spooky decorating too?

Beginnings are always awkward.

I've been wanting to start this for some time now. I've been writing for years in my own little personal journals, so I figured why not join the 978 bazillion mamas out there writing about their little ones. Cutsie baby photos, dirty diapers, temper tantrum tales, mountain adventures, pinterest crafts, and recipe sharing? I'm all over it! So naturally, I'm signing up to share it.

Cheers to something new!
